Diversity in Advertising Career Day debuted in 2007 to commemorate the first anniversary of a landmark agreement between New York City and top Gotham advertising agencies to require diversification of their workforces.

The event provides a forum for multicultural professionals to network and explore career opportunities in advertising, marketing and communications, and for companies to source top-caliber, diverse candidates.

The third annual Career Day will be held at the Hilton Towers in New York City on April 22nd, 2009.

The last New York event, in April of this year, was officially proclaimed as Diversity in Advertising & Public Relations Career Day by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States by the people of France in 1886. It stands at Liberty Island as a welcome to all visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans. The copper patina-clad statue, dedicated on October 28, 1886, commemorates the centennial of the United States and is a gesture of friendship from France to the U.S. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi sculpted the statue and obtained a U.S. patent useful for raising construction funds through the sale of miniatures. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower) engineered the internal structure. Eugène Viollet-le-Duc was responsible for the choice of copper in the statue’s construction and adoption of the repoussé technique.

More than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954. The first immigrant to pass through Ellis Island was Annie Moore, a 15-year-old girl from County Cork, Ireland, on January 1, 1892. She and her two brothers were coming to America to meet their parents, who had moved to New York two years prior. She received a greeting from officials and a $10.00 gold piece.[4] The last person to pass through Ellis Island was a Norwegian merchant seaman by the name of Arne Peterssen in 1954. After 1924 when the National Origins Act was passed, the only immigrants to pass through there were displaced persons or war refugees.[5] Today, over 100 million Americans can trace their ancestry to the immigrants who first arrived in America through the island before dispersing to points all over the country.
