Manhattan is one of the boroughs of New York City. Located primarily on Manhattan Island at the mouth of the Hudson River, the boundaries of the borough are identical to those of New York County, an original county of the state of New York.

Manhattan and Manhattan Island consists of several small adjacent islands; Roosevelt Island, Randall’s Island, Ward’s Island, Governors Island, Liberty Island, part of Ellis Island, and U Thant Island; as well as Marble Hill, a small section on the mainland near the Bronx. Originally, the city of New York began at the southern end of Manhattan and in 1898 it expanded to include surrounding counties. Manhattan is the smallest yet most urbanized of the five boroughs.

Numerous books were written about Manhattan such as Manhattan on Film, Manhattan on Film 2, Manhattan on the Rocks, Skyscraper and more.

Manhattan College, overlooking Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, is an independent Catholic institution of higher learning, which embraces qualified men and women of all faiths, races and ethnic backgrounds. Established in 1853, the College is founded upon the Lasallian tradition of excellence in teaching, respect for individual dignity, and commitment to social justice inspired by the innovator of modern pedagogy, John Baptist de La Salle.

Alta is the anti-tapas bar. Yes, its menu consists entirely of small plates, priced from $3 to $14, and yes, many of them-pungent boquerones with quail eggs and Worcestershire mayo, say, or grilled sourdough adorned with creamy Valdeon, salty serrano, and roasted pineapple-taste and sound Spanish enough. But chef Harrison Mosher’s elegant, offbeat presentations come off more haute tasting menu than run-of-the-mill Madrid. Neighbors drop by the long, welcoming bar for extemporaneous goat-cheese fritters and lavender honey, or a glass of wine from a carefully aged old-world list. There many delightful restaurants along with excellent nightclubs in Manhattan

Locksmiths do numerous jobs. A lot of the time, they are of somewhere replacing lost keys or picking a lock for a customer when they locked themselves out of a residence, office building, or vehicle. When you find yourself in an emergency you usually are not concerned about how much money you actually spend. This is because you probably only care about getting past the troubles in front of you. If that is the issue, this article will give you a heads up on the costs to help you avoid scammers and find a professional locksmith in Manhattan.

A substantial amount of companies are operated by scammers who want to cheat clients in immediate need of a lock professional into paying an unfair dollar amount for a job as fast as a commercial lock-out. Honest locksmith companies stick to a sort of standard on how they establish the pricing. Locksmith companies should keep the pricing honest and technicians are experts to be a reputable company.

Usually in Manhattan, companies offer unlocking services to offices and homes in the neighborhood of $15.00 to $30.00. Prices fluctuate due to the types of locks available and does not include labor costs. If its an automobile lock-out, the prices will normally be slightly more. Those services usually will be anywhere from $15.00 to $55.00, without labor costs. The additional charge is due to the fact that car and truck locks involve multiple forms of tools, thus the locksmith might need specialty tools in an effort to open the lock.

Should you ever want to unlock a more technologically advanced device, the pricing will typically be slightly higher. Tech savvy locks can be all types of security access control locks such as doors with a key pad and fingerprint scanning. Likes like these are much harder to break and involve more time spent. Any certified locksmith should be able to unlock your locks quickly, so cost of labor should stay pretty low.

Lastly, if you want to ask a question pertaining to pricing you should contact a locksmith company in Manhattan. Ask them to make you a closer price estimate.

There are so many great things about Manhattan. From the liveliness to the convenience and the outright beauty of the city itself, residents and travelers alike fall in love with New York.

I’ve lived in a few neighborhoods throughout the city, and I plan on spending time in more as time allows me to. My favorite thing about Manhattan is that you could relocate by something as small as ten blocks, and you’ll be in a completely different world.

I’ve done my best to explore each as much as I possibly can, though I’ll never have the time to fully immerse myself as much as I’d like to. The city is simply too big for that.

This article is going to hone in on some of my favorite neighborhoods in this great city. While all of them are great, here are the ones that I enjoy most.

The first place that you may want to look into is the East Village. In recent years, this part of Manhattan has really thrived, developing into a cultural mecca and a really fun place to be.

Catered to a younger crowd (think 20s and 30s), there are so many different styles of food, bars, lounges, and clothing shopping, all immersed in one area no bigger than a square mile at most. The East Village morphs into the Lower East Side as you go down, and the areas are very similar.

If you want to try something a bit more subdued, the West Village is very similar in terms of its offerings, but a little more laid back. The tree lined blocks here add a lot of character to the neighborhood, and it’s one of the city’s most scenic areas.

If you’re looking for more of an educational experience where you see landmarks, museums, and historical sights, then you might really enjoy the Upper West side of Manhattan. This is home to things like Rockefeller Center, Central Park, many museums, and near Times Square as well.

As you can see, there’s so much to do in this great city. What’s scary is that I’ve only mentioned a few of the many wonderful places to choose from.

See more of this writer’s work about health insurance for dependents and individual health insurance premium tips.

by Darrin Lucister

It is unclear how long the current state of our economy will last. Three months? Three years? But one thing’s for certain: the Brissi Group has its eye on the NYC rental market and using the ups and downs for negotiating rents. The Brissi Group is Manhattan’s only real estate brokerage to offer a flat-fee apartment search.

Manhattan’s restate market has seen drastic changes in real estate, showing just how volatile the market is. The Brissi Group and its rental division, Flat Fee Rentals NYC have shown just how low prices can get with the right negotiating tactics. In fact, renters can expect to pay less than they did in 2008, on average about 17% less than the owner’s first asking price.

Vacancy rates have forced landlords to lower rents and offer incentives such as a month free rent to tempt apartment seekers. Hiring freezes and layoffs in the city have not only slashed the amount of renters but has slashed the amount of renters who can afford a broker. Brissi Group has stepped up and now offers the city’s only flat fee apartment search.

Some landlords are even paying part of all of the brokers fee as a result of today’s soft rental market. Much more typical, a free months rent, although not advertised, is always up for negotiating. The worst case scenario is a no, and you still get the apartment.

The best way to find an apartment in Manhattan is to work with a flat-fee broker, that way there’s no conflict of interest: you know your broker works for you, NOT for a commission (so not up selling on your rent). Brissi Group’s Flat Fee Rentals NYC is the only service in New York City to offer a flat-fee rental search.

When you know where you want to live in New York City, the next logical step is to figure out how to find a vacant apartment in that specific area. When you enlist the aid of a flat fee rental agent such as the Brissi Group, you will have access to 85 percent of the listings on the current rental market. This includes listings in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, and of course the hub of it all, Manhattan.

What neighborhood you pick is a personal decision which means you need personal attention. Brissi Group agents can help you find the neighborhood that’s just right for you.

With the right tools and rental agents, find your perfect place can be seamless. By working with a flat-fee broker you can rest easy knowing your agent is working for you, not a broker. For more information, check out Manhattans only flat-fee real estate rentals at http://www.flatfeerentalsnyc.com/ or contact them by calling 212-738-0880 or sending an email to info@FlatFeeRentalsNYC.com

Musculoskeletal conditions are often treated with medication; but these can actually be treated using a realistic, holistic and natural approach. This is none other than chiropractics which is based on biomechanics and keeping the spine aligned. By doing this it provides relief and comfort for patients.

By using a gentle force and quick movements chiropractics coordinates the spine and body. By correcting any problems in the spine the patient should experience comfort. There should never be any pain felt during the process of chiropractics.

Chiropractics is an effective treatment for several things which is why many people turn to it. Finding a good chiropractor in New York City especially Manhattan may not be an easy task. If you want to make sure that you end up with the right chiropractor for you then there are a few points that you should look at.

As with any specialist that you deal with it is important that you make sure your chosen chiropractor in New York has the right license. You will want to check that he or she is practicing in the right field and knows what he or she is doing.

Another area that you may want to check up on is education. Remember that there are certain schools which are accredited and known for chiropractics. One way of checking this out is by making sure that your chiropractor’s school is accredited by the Council of Chiropractic Education. Other areas that you could look into are seminars and conferences attended.

One of the most important things that you want to have in a chiropractor is the feeling of being comfortable. If you don’t feel comfortable with your chosen chiropractor then you will not feel comfortable with your sessions. It’s important that you can ask your chiropractor anything and be at ease.

Keep in mind also that your chiropractor should be able to treat different conditions that are in line with musculoskeletal conditions. Common conditions that your chiropractor should be able to treat are: back pain, neck pain, migraines and headaches, lower back pain, TMJ and sciatica.

You don’t want to forget to look for a chiropractor who can give you the time and attention that you need. Your chiropractor should be able to work with you and explain the treatments to you. He or should be able to accommodate you and let you know how things are going with your treatments.

This is the Hearst Tower and the view from the 46 stories building near Columbus Circle. Hearst Tower is a “green building” the first building to receive a Gold LEED certified rating for “core and shell and interiors” in New York City.
* Over 90% of structural steel contains recycled material
* The cost of foreign-sourced materials represents less than 10% of the
cost of the construction of the Tower itself.
* The “diagrid” frame of the Tower contains roughly 20% less steel than
would a conventional perimeter frame ‹ saving approximately 2,000 tons of
steel.
* The waterfall inside uses water collected as rainfall.
* Each triangle in the diagrid is four stories tall, or 54 feet.
* Daylight sensors to control lighting and reduce energy use

The environmentally conscious approach began prior to construction. When demolishing the interior portions of the existing, six-story structure, Hearst and its team of building professionals went to great lengths to collect and separate recyclable materials. As a result, about 85 percent of the original structure was recycled for future use.

Hearst executives also selected an innovative type of glass that wraps
around the exterior of the building. The glass has a special “low-E” coating that allows for internal spaces to be flooded with natural light while keeping out the invisible solar radiation that causes heat.

Hearst also will utilize technology that senses activity level. At
lunchtime, when some employees are leaving or not using their computers, motion sensors will detect this and adjust the system accordingly. These sensors will allow for lights and computers to be turned off when a room is vacant.

In addition, Hearst is using high efficiency heating and air-conditioning
equipment that will utilize outside air for cooling and ventilation for 75
percent of the year, as well as Energy Star appliances. These and other
energy-saving features are expected to increase energy efficiency by 22 percent compared to a standard office building. This is a welcome innovation in New York City, where rapidly growing electricity demand is threatening to overwhelm the local power supply.

Hearst is also employing pioneering technologies in order to conserve and more efficiently use water. For example, Hearst’s roof has been designed to collect rainwater, which reduces the amount of water dumped into the City’s sewer system during rainfall by 25 percent.

The rainwater will then be harvested in one 14,000-gallon reclamation tank located in the basement of the Hearst Tower. The rainwater is used to replace water lost to evaporation in the office air-conditioning system. It also feeeds into a special pumping system to irrigate plantings and trees inside and outside of the building. It is expected that the captured rain will produce about half of the watering needs.

The harvested water also is utilized for “Icefall,” a three-story, sculpted
water feature within the building’s grand atrium. In addition to serving as a stunning entrance to the building, Icefall, which is believed to be the nation’s largest sustainable water feature, also serves an environmental function by serving to humidify and chill the atrium lobby as necessary.

Workstations and offices are furnished with desks, chairs and other
furniture that is formaldehyde free. Concrete surfaces are furnished with low toxicity sealants.

The Nasty boyz, The Nations Best, The Notorious Bunch, The Neck Brakers, The Nonstop Bombers or just old plain T.N.BZZZZZ was started back in 1977 by T.kid170 and Peser (int1). The goal was to form a Brotherhood of Writers with Style to go & King lines wityh whole cars, End to ends, insides & outsides. “And boy did we have fun doin it.” Over the years the crew grew into a world wide organazation with writers throughout the globe. And its still growing.

Mike Dust, Crazy505, Mike Nice, Joker 1, Nugget 1, Rase ONE (COPPER), Shock123, Vista, Take 1, War 1, & Bilroc.. These are the founding fathers of the crew. T.KID170, SHOCK 123 & MIKE DUST then started The Vamp Squad. T.V.S later became natoriuosly known for the vicing (victimizing) of writers also the vamping (taking your at will) of the drug dealers in central park. Our favorite line was “YO-you heard of the Vamp Squad” well guess what “this is it!” This was separate from what the Nasty Boyz was about, but it was a necessity at the time. You either took or got taken from. Later on the Boyz included Trip7, Stop, 2Draw, Rac 7, Boozer 1, Kenn, Cem, Mack, Bio1, Nicer, Raz ….
Our favorite yard was the Ghost yard and we kept this yard locked down. Terrorizing any and all we caught in our yard. We pulled many whole cars in the ghost. And the Ghost has many stories to tell…

The Boyz are now World wide with representation in Germany, France, Denmark, Grate Britain, Puerto Rico, U.S.A ( Philly, Chicago, Maimi, Cali,& of course N.Y)…. If I forgot your place please forgive me I got C.R.S (cant remember shit) some of the members now are TERRIBLETKID170, COPE2, EWOK, POSE2, SEW, SKE, REK, BANDO, MYST, JAYONE, PHOS, SHECK, KAOS, POET, BATES, CAN2, SERVE, also my Bremen Bombers (Chico.Tomek,Elow.) The MilanoBunch ( AIRONE, TEATRO, REBLERAE, PHATO, PONGO, SKY4) HEIDELBERG CRU HESS, TILO, FABIAN, RUDY.. and so many others…

I was born in Newark New Jersey. When I was like 3 years old my parents got divorced and I moved to the Bronx. When I was about 9 or 10, I lived on University Av. and I used to go to the school called PS 126. That’s when I kind of got introduced to graffiti, I remember this little magazine called Read that they gave us to get us to start reading. Looking through it I saw an article on what Phase 2 was doing back then which was some serious stuff. I liked it and started to try to do the same. On 170th street there were always a lot of people just tagging around here and there. I liked it, but I really didn’t think much of it ’till I met Tracy 168. He and the people he was hanging out with introduced me to the different sides of the graffiti scene back then. When I was about 13, this kid named Padre (RIP) used to come up to my house. We used to get zooted and battle on paper bags with only a pencil and different color pens. He taught me how to do pieces like with a smooth feeling to them. I didn’t have a name, I went threw many different nicknames before T-kid actually came along. Back then people used to call me kid cause I was always tall and the youngest one around. I was tall and skinny and kind of shapped like a T, my brother used to call me big t. So I put the T and the Kid together like that and added the 170 which is the street that I lived on back in ‘73 when I first got inspired.

I started TNB in 1980. At first it was just me and Pesser, Two Nasty Boys. I always liked those lettres so I kept the click as we where getting up. Back in the vicking days it stood for The Neck Breakers cuz that’s what we did to people. Later on as I started putting down people who could piece, it became The Nation’s Best. Now it’s international with kids in France, England, Germany and Spain. I try to keep that name affiliated with good art, nasty art!

(COPE2 South Bronx, New York) is a graffiti artist from the South Bronx. Though he is known worldwide, he did not receive a lot attention in the graffiti world until the 1990s. He has been painting since 1981, and has gained international credit for his work. He and his crew “Kings Destroy” (formerly “Kids Destroy,” or simply KD) are the main focus of the influential graffiti movie “Kings Destroy”. Cope2 has been one of the main targets of the New York City Vandal Squad and has been arrested for vandalism, theft and drug charges. The arrest followed his recent success in releasing a 272 page book of his work titled “Cope 2: True Legend” Cope2 started writing graffiti around 1980, his cousin Chico 80 introduced Cope into writing and it ran in the family. He made his own crew called Kids Destroy and eventually it changed to Kings Destroy after he was the king of the 4 line.
Some of Cope2’s initial commercial artwork has been sold on the Christie’s auction block for $1,000(USD) per painting. Early work includes cover art for a Boogie Down Productions album titled “Sex and Violence.”

More recently Cope2 has appeared in Marc Ecko’s 2006 video game, Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. As one of the “graffiti legends”, your character takes a photograph of Cope2’s work, shortly before Cope2 himself arrives and teaches your character how to write throwups on trains. Before the release of the game, Cope2 called a local Councilman, Peter Vallone Jr., to complain about the shutting down of a publicity event for the title. The event, coordinated by Mark Ecko, called for the spray painting of vintage train cars during a block party celebrating Graffiti and Hiphop culture. Vallone is noted as saying he was responsible for having the permit pulled for the event. Vallone is quoted as calling Cope2 a “punk.” It is said this confrontation sparked the interest of Time Magazine in the artist. The event permit was later reissued as judge Jed S. Rakoff of the Federal District Court in Manhattan over turned the previous ruling on grounds of freedom of speech.
Time Magazine commissioned Cope2, for $20,000(USD), to paint a billboard ad in the SoHo district of Manhattan, New York on Houston and Wooster. The ad depicts the magazines cover with graffiti tags scrawled over it, the text reads “Post-Modernism? Neo-Expressionism? Just Vandalism? Time. Know why”
Cope2 has designed a pair of sneakers for Converse under the “Chuck Taylor All-Stars” line his throw up recently appeared on a wall in the movie “Shrek The Third”. Cope2 is one of the most known users of WILDSTYLE and is also known for his bubble letters.

The Golden Age of Graffiti took place in New York City from about 1974 — 1984 on the N.Y.C Subway system, then from around
the mid 80’s to the late 90’s on the N.Y.C Streets,(Store front gates, trucks, vans, and mainly walls , roof-tops and anything that can be seen from the subway lines.
It was influenced by early writers who picked a “tag” and added a number such as their street. For example, “BASS167″.
During the time, New York City was the only place that was getting “hit” so much. Graffiti writers mainly expressed their talents on the subway system because the subway train could transport their name from one end of the city to the other. By mid 1972 all 6,000+ subway cars, according to The New York Times, had graffiti on them. The goal of many writers was to go “All City” or hit each subway line. However, in the 1980s, the MTA began to spend more money cleaning trains, encouraging store owners to lock up their spray paint to prevent shoplifting, protecting train yards, and with the beginning of the crack cocaine epidemic during around 1984, the movement began to fade away as violence became more common and places became more territorial to certain crews. Also, spray paint was required to be locked up in stores under a new law established in 1985. The original painted silver canvases on trains became red which was undesirable to write on and older cars were replaced with new stainless steel cars which could be cleaned easily to perfection. Cleaning or “buffing” was also becoming more common on the subways. By 1989 the subway system was clean. Basicly ALL Writers Started hitting the streets heavily. Anything around the subway lines that can be seen from the subway platform or the subway tracks where the train passes was covered with Graffiti.
After that “Street Bombing” became like an epidemic as writers began throwing there names up in the streets.
By the 1990’s the streets still had a lot of graffiti though, but after the late ’90s alot of it was cleaned up. New York has never been “bombed” with as much graffiti as it used to since then and probably never ever will be. However, by the time the graffiti movement pretty much died out in New York City it had already spread to the rest of the world!!!!

—————————————

Graffiti is the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property.

Between the years of 1969-1974 the “pioneering era” took place. During this time graffiti underwent a change in styles and popularity. The city produced one of the first graffiti artists to gain media attention in New York, TAKI 183. TAKI 183 was a youth from Washington Heights, Manhattan who worked as a foot messenger. His tag is a mixture of his name Demetrius (Demetraki), TAKI, and his street number, 183rd. Being a foot messenger, he was constantly on the subway and began to put up his tags along his travels. This spawned a 1971 article in the New York Times titled “‘Taki 183′ Spawns Pen Pals”. Julio 204 is also credited as the first writer, but didn’t get the fame that Taki received. TAKI 183 was the first artist to be recognised outside of the graffiti subculture, but wasn’t the first artist. Other notable names from that time are: Stay High 149, Hondo 1, Phase 2, Stitch 1, SEEN,Bosik 1, Bolst 1, Kinks 2, Septik 1, Joe 182, Junior 161 and Cay 161. Barbara 62 and Eva 62 were also important early graffiti artists in New York, and are the first known females to write graffiti.

Also taking place during this era was the movement from outside on the city streets to the subways. Graffiti also saw its first seeds of competition around this time. The goal of most artists at this point was called “getting up” and involved having as many tags and bombs in as many places as possible. Artists began to break into subway yards in order to hit as many trains as they could with a lower risk, often creating larger elaborate pieces of art along the subway car sides. This is when the act of bombing was said to be officially established.

Clean Train Movement era
The current era in graffiti is characterized by a majority of graffiti artists moving from subway or train cars to “street galleries.” The Clean Train Movement started in May, 1989, when New York attempted to remove all of the subway cars found with graffiti on them out of the transit system. Because of this, Much controversy arose among the streets, graffiti should be considered an actual form of art.
